In 1950, my family who was originally from Puerto Rico, moved
to New York City. They were the first generation of "New Yoricans" living in Spanish Harlem (also known as the Barrio). Some
of my family remains there still.
Fast Forward... In 1980, after 3 days of labor, my mother
finally gave birth to me, her first child, at the age of 17. In this pic are my 2 grandmothers and my exhausted
mom.
Me and my real parents. Here I am with my grandmother Lily,
and Edna. They had the priviledge of raising me from birth.
Here is one you'll enjoy. I am about 7 here. Recently I found a brief
description that I had written about myself when I was about that age. My hobbies included, and I quote: "Bowling,
basketball, reading and writing." (Since when did I like basketball?)
My allergies included, and I quote again: "Dust, fur and babies." Yep.
You read it correctly. Babies. Actually, I am still allergic to babies.
This is me when I was seventeen. As you can see, I am still
in Catholic School, an all-girls school to be exact.
